Brendan Rodgers couldn’t be happier with how hard his Celtic team has worked to get ready for the season. He showed his excitement in his pre-game press conference on Friday.
On Sunday, Celtic plays Kilmarnock at Celtic Park in the first Scottish Premiership game of the season. They will be trying to get their first three points and raise the league winners flag.
Everyone knows that scores from before the season don’t mean much. There are no other purposes than to get fit. But it’s been good to see how hard the players have worked and how they’ve behaved over the last month.
The team looks sharp, driven, and eager to find new ways to attack that will hurt their opponents. Even though they won both games in the end, there’s still hope for better results this season.
This group of players has grown, and Rodgers is now proud of their progress. Another thing that made him feel better was hearing what Chelsea had to say about the Boyz after their recent 4-1 win in Indiana in a friendly.
This Celtic team has the traits that Brendan Rodgers is known for.
“I am very pleased with the fitness and technical aspects,” the manager of Celtic FC said. Especially in the U.S. against some really good teams, we worked on some things during the off-season.
“It was interesting because one of my young players used to play for Chelsea.” He said, “That was a Brendan team we were playing,” while sitting on the bench after the game where he played against them.
As a person, that was a good sign for me because he has played for me before and knows what I want and need. It’s there in a different team that plays the same way. We’re in a great spot from that point of view.
Celtic needs to turn their good run into Premier League points.
Now is the time for Celtic to stay focused and not let their great pre-season play fool them into thinking they will automatically win the Premiership.
The league is tough and physical, and the Bhoys will be playing a very different kind of team. It’s all there: low blocks, tough defense, tactical calls, and more. It can drain the energy of even the best teams.
Like every other team in the league this season, they’ll have to be ready to fight Kilmarnock. Showing that fight will give the team a chance to show how good they are.
