A lot of players have left Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City team while he has been in charge.

In the past few transfer windows, Guardiola has seen the Blues lose a lot of different players since taking over as manager in 2016.

It is said that City will let go of Julian Alvarez in the last month of the current summer transfer window. Atletico Madrid has apparently agreed to pay €95m (£81m) to sign him.

In fact, it looks like the Argentine will get his medical at the Spanish club on Monday.

Before City’s Community Shield match against Manchester United on Saturday, the manager had some things to say about Alvarez’s impending departure and what the two had talked about.

Pep Guardiola talks about what Julian Alvarez told him before the deal with Atletico Madrid.

Guardiola said this in a recent press meeting when asked about the rumored deal between Alvarez and Atletico.

“First, I want to thank Julian for everything he did to help us win.

“The team loved him for how he behaved, but if he wants to leave for a new challenge—Atletico is a great club—that’s fine.

“We hope the best for him.” He taught me a lot, and I hope he finds what he was looking for.

“He told me he wants a new challenge and feels that’s what he needs to do, so I don’t know why he wanted to leave.”

“He played a lot last season. Sometimes he played with Erling [Haaland], but I know there were times when he didn’t play.”

“I told the club many times that contracts can be broken, so if you’re not happy, why are you here?”

“I think his time here is over, so that’s fine. The two clubs came to an agreement, and that’s all there is to it.”

Alvarez will have a new tough task at Atletico.

In his two years at City, Alvarez has played in 103 games across all categories, starting 62 of them.

It’s clear why Guardiola has so much respect for the Argentine. He has scored 36 goals and set up 18 others for Chelsea, so it’s easy to see how much he is appreciated for his work on the team.

Going forward, everyone at City will be hoping that the World Cup winner can enjoy his new job in Spain and that they won’t miss him too much.
