Ahead of Sandro Tonali’s Newcastle return, his wife has shared a touching update

Sandro Tonali and his wife share special moment ahead of his Newcastle United return

Sandro Tonali and his wife, Juliette Pastore, have had something to celebrate ahead of the midfielder’s return to action for Newcastle United.

Tonali was always expected to miss Italy’s latest World Cup qualifier, with the Azzurri almost certain to finish behind Norway in their group and already guaranteed a play-off spot. Italy boss Gennaro Gattuso had confirmed before the match that he did not want to risk the Newcastle star, who was just one booking away from suspension.

Gattuso explained: “[Riccardo] Calafiori is out. Tonali is also out, he doesn’t have any physical issues, but we won’t risk him given his booking. He will train today and he will be at the stadium tomorrow, as well as Calafiori. Both will attend the match.”

Tonali hosts baby shower as return to Newcastle approaches

Following Italy’s defeat in Milan, Tonali reunited with his wife, friends and family as the couple celebrated their baby shower. The pair, who married over the summer, are expecting their first child—a boy—due in early 2026.

“We know the name but it’s a secret now, just for the next month,” Tonali recently told the Newcastle United media team. “We have a baby shower after the international break, and maybe after this party we’ll share the name for our boy.”

Juliette later posted several photos from the celebration on Instagram, where it was revealed that the couple will name their son Leonardo.

Injury concerns eased ahead of Man City clash

Tonali joined Newcastle from AC Milan in 2023 but endured a turbulent first season in England, receiving a 10-month betting ban after just 12 appearances. He returned last season and quickly re-established himself as a key figure in Eddie Howe’s midfield, helping the club win the Carabao Cup and secure Champions League qualification.

Although Tonali recently admitted he prefers to take his career “year by year” rather than making long-term commitments, he remains an important part of the Newcastle squad.

There had been some concern after his recent illness and subsequent withdrawal from the Italy squad, especially with reports from Fabrizio Romano claiming he was “not 100% fit.” However, it is understood that Tonali has no significant issues and is expected to be fully available for Newcastle’s Premier League return against Manchester City at St James’ Park on Saturday (5:30pm kickoff).
