The Detroit Lions improved to 3-1 with a commanding 34-10 victory over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, powered in part by two touchdowns from star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown. While many players would view a seven-catch, 70-yard, two-score performance as a sign of dominance, St. Brown’s postgame message was very different: the Lions can still be better.
“I still feel like we can be better as an offense, and a lot of the guys feel the same way,” St. Brown said after the game. “It’s tough to win in this league, especially against a defense like that, so we’ll enjoy this one. But when we get back to work next week, we know there’s room to improve.”
That outlook speaks volumes about where Detroit is mentally. Even in the midst of a three-game winning streak, their offensive leader isn’t satisfied. Against Cleveland, Jared Goff connected with St. Brown twice for touchdowns, rookie Jahmyr Gibbs added a rushing score, and the Lions’ defense shut down Joe Flacco to take full control.
Still, St. Brown’s mindset stood out more than the box score. He doesn’t just want to be good — he wants the Lions to be elite. When the team’s top receiver is preaching higher standards after a blowout win, it raises expectations across the entire locker room.
With one of the NFC’s most complete rosters, a defense that’s performing at a high level, and a relentless leader like St. Brown refusing to settle, Detroit looks increasingly dangerous. If St. Brown is right that the offense still has another gear to reach, the Lions may only be scratching the surface of their potential in 2025.
Bottom Line: The “Sun God” isn’t satisfied. Two touchdowns weren’t enough for Amon-Ra St. Brown, and that hunger could be what propels the Lions from contenders to true NFC heavyweights.
