Anthony Gordon sends a 15-word message following the conclusion of Newcastle United’s 27-year delay for the arrival of a £104m trio.In the Nations League at Wembley, Anthony Gordon scored his first goal for England in a 5-0 victory over the Republic of Ireland on Sunday.

After Harry Kane had scored from the penalty spot, the Newcastle winger doubled England’s lead in the second half by volleying in Tino Livramento’s severely deflected cross. Conor Gallagher, Jarrod Bowen, and debutant Taylor Harwood-Bellis secured a resounding victory over Ireland, which was reduced to ten players following Liam Scales’ second yellow card.

Gordon posted an image of himself celebrating his goal on social media after the match, along with the caption: “It was an incredible experience to score my first goal at Wembley!” My brothers and I thoroughly enjoyed this camp.

The match also marked Livramento’s debut in England, while Lewis Hall received his first senior start after coming off the substitute on Thursday. Hall responded to Gordon’s post by stating, “What a player.”

England had three Newcastle players start a match for the first time since 1997.

The England squad in 1997 included Alan Shearer, Rob Lee, David Batty, and Stuart Pearce, all of whom were members of The Magpies. In 1998 World Cup qualifying, Shearer, Batty, and Lee all started in a 2-0 victory over Georgia at Wembley Stadium. Teddy Sheringham and Shearer tallied for England.

Newcastle’s non-international players have been in Saudi Arabia for warm-weather training and supporter engagement events during the international break. On Monday, 25 September, at 8 p.m., they will resume their Premier League campaign against West Ham United.
