‘Anything” – Former Celtic captain Paul Lambert delivers his verdict ahead of the Scottish Cup final between Celtic vs Rangers on saturday

At Hampden, Celtic supporters will eagerly anticipate the Scottish Cup final against Rangers this coming weekend as an additional chance to boast about their most ardent adversaries.

Three victories in the last four Glasgow derbies have contributed to the season’s cause for celebration on derby day. Conquering another in the season’s championship curtain call would serve as an excellent way to begin the summer holiday.

And while nobody is overly optimistic about our prospects, the fact that Brendan Rodgers led a full-strength squad to the Hampden final gives me that extra bit of assurance that the Celtic manager will orchestrate yet another successful outcome.

“Optimistic” Paul Lambert expects Celtic to defeat Rangers.

'Anything" - Former Celtic captain Paul Lambert delivers his verdict ahead of the Scottish Cup final between Celtic vs Rangers on saturday
Former Celtic captain Paul Lambert was queried about the upcoming Scottish Cup final, and although he is optimistic about the outcome, he concedes that “anything can happen” in these major derby matches.

Lambert stated [talkSPORT]: “In my opinion, Celtic enter as favorites. The only factor that would render the match balanced is if it were to take place at Hampden and if your support was split 50/50.

“In my opinion, Celtic are progressing exceptionally well at the moment.” They are in the lead, but anything can occur in a cup final, particularly considering that it is a derby matchup.

“With all due hope, Celtic will prevail.”

Consistent readers are aware that I maintain the opinion that form is not disregarded during these events. Indeed, it substantially dictates who is most prone to emerge victorious.

Since February 2022, Celtic has suffered only one meaningful loss at the hands of Rangers. In fact, that was in Ange Postecoglou’s Scottish Cup semi-final extra-time loss, but Celtic has performed admirably in every other meaningful matchup.

I am no longer naïve. It is true that anything can occur in cup football, just as it did back then, but Celtic’s nine victories, three draws, and two defeats over the past two years indicate that they are riding high on momentum and have sufficient experience to prevail on Saturday afternoon.
