Arsenal awarded a significant injury boost to Bukkayo Saka prior to their match against Fulham.
After first being seen in full training following a hamstring injury in December, Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka is getting closer to a comeback. While still recovering, the 23-year-old might be in contention for the Gunners’ team against Fulham on Tuesday.
Saka suffered the damage during Arsenal’s 5-1 triumph against Crystal Palace, which made him leave the pitch clearly uncomfortable. He had surgery a few days later, therefore ruling him out for the last 19 games in all competitions. With Mikel Arteta’s team currently trailing leaders Liverpool by 12 points, his absence has dealt a major blow to Arsenal’s Premier League challenge. During his stay on the sidelines, the Gunners were also kicked out from the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
With Mikel Merino positioned as a false nine due to long-term injuries to Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz, Arteta has been obliged to modify his attacking approach in Saka’s absence. Ethan Nwaneri, eighteen years old, has been assigned to play right wing. But Saka has been progressively raising his training intensity over the international break, therefore inspiring fresh hope. Although he is supposed to be totally healthy for
Arsenal’s Champions League quarter-final game against Real Madrid, there is now a chance he might come back to the team for Tuesday’s Premier League game against Fulham. Now back in full training, he will be seeking to improve on an outstanding season in which he has provided nine goals and 13 assists in all competitions. Saka reassured supporters after surgery that he will come back stronger, writing:
“The majority see hurdles, but few see the possibilities. Recovery is under way, and I am returning stronger! I appreciate all of your comments. With Arsenal hoping to maintain their Champions League dreams in a much awaited clash against reigning champions Real Madrid, his comeback would not come at a more pivotal point.
