At the end of the previous season, Manchester City won their sixth Premier League title in seven years.
As a matter of fact, Pep Guardiola’s team became the first to win four straight Premier League titles.
For the second year in a row, the Blues beat Arsenal to win the title.
Since the new season is almost here, Gunners manager Mikel Arteta, who used to work with Guardiola as a coach at City, has talked about what his team plans to do to try and knock the Citizens off their perch.
Michaell Arteta warns Man City ahead of the new season
A few weeks ago, Arteta said this in a press meeting (via Arsenal) when asked what his team needed to do to finish ahead of City in the Premier League.
He told them, “114 points! If we get that many, we’ll definitely win the league!”
“This is the goal, and then we’ll see what else we can get. But for now, that has to be the goal: win every game, earn the right to win it, and make it most likely that the other team will win.”
“Even when things go wrong, we still need to be better than our opponents. That’s our goal as a team.”
The City team will have to be careful of another Arsenal title run.
When we look back at the last season, City had 91 points after winning 28 of their 38 games, drawing seven, and dropping three.
Although Arsenal won the same number of games as City, they lost two more than they won, giving them 89 points overall.
In June, the former City coach said that he congratulated Guardiola and his team after the Blues won their most recent title. This shows how much he respects them as former coworkers.
It’s easy to see why the Gunners manager thinks that winning all of their games this time is the only way to beat City and win the league title. Arteta has shown just how high of a bar City has set.
Since Arteta’s team has come in second place for two years in a row, City will have to be careful again. They are eager to take the title away from Manchester.
