Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber gave a detailed message on his kneel injury experience at his first season at Arsenal
Jurrien Timber’s first season at Arsenal was a nightmare because he got hurt badly and had to miss most of the season. The Dutch player tore his cruciate ligament just 50 minutes into his Premier League start in August 2023. He couldn’t play again for the rest of the season. He came back for a short time against Everton on the last day of the season.
Timber has talked about his injury and how he plans to mentally prepare for a good comeback now that he is fully recovered.
Timber told De Telegraaf that he has not been afraid of physical challenges since he started playing again. The 23-year-old said, “That knee is stronger than the other one.”
“It still feels a little stiff sometimes after a game or practice, but it doesn’t bother me mentally anymore.” When I went out for the first time, I threw tackles again right away, without being scared. That’s when things go wrong, so you can’t just take part in part of it.
Timber’s fearless method shows how determined he is to get back to full health. His words show how important it is to give your all in physical duels, since holding back can make you more likely to get hurt again.
In a recent 1-1 draw with Brighton, Timber gave fans a little bit of a scare when he looked like he was having trouble late in the game. But Mikel Arteta said after the game that it was just cramp and nothing major.
The 2024–25 season looks like it will be very important for Timber. In addition to showing that he is fit again after such a serious accident, he now has to compete with Riccardo Calafiori, who was signed for £42 million, for his spot. Timber has mostly been used as a left back so far, but he has also been used in the middle of the field when needed. But Arteta also sees Calafiori as a possibility in the same area, which puts more pressure on Timber to do well.
Even though the competition might push Timber to do better, he shouldn’t push his body too far in an effort to show off, because that could hurt him.
Michael Arteta is glad to see Timber back on the field for now. He will play with the same fearless energy that made him one of the most exciting summer signings for the club.
