Arsenal has reached an agreement to acquire St Johnstone’s promising youngster, Callan Hamill, for a total of six figures.
The teenager is expected to join the Gunners during the summer. There were no new additions to Mikel Arteta’s squad in January, despite the increasing injury crisis in the attack. A bid for Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins was rejected, and allegations of a renewed effort to acquire Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic were unsuccessful.
Jack Wilshere was impressed by Hamill during his tenure as Arsenal’s Under-18s coach, according to The Scottish Sun in 2024. Wilshere has since departed North London, assuming the role of first team coach at Norwich under Johannes Hoff Thorup in October. However, The Athletic has reported that Hamill will remain with the Gunners on July 1.
Several players from the Under-18 team that was previously managed by Wilshere have already been afforded the opportunity to compete with Arsenal’s senior team. In the autumn, Jack Porter, a young custodian, was immediately called upon to play in the Carabao Cup, while Max Dowman, who is only 15 years old, has been training with the first team.
Arsenal is inching closer to acquiring their first senior player, although Hamill may be the first newcomer to the team in 2025. The London team has been after Spanish custodian Joan Garcia for some time as they seek a consistent backup to David Raya. Espanyol, Garcia’s club, has reportedly opened the door to a summer deal.
