After England beat Finland on Tuesday, Declan Rice told everyone what Harry Maguire’s new nickname is. During the international break, Rice and Maguire started both of England’s games as they started their Nations League campaign with two wins in a row.

Rice, an Arsenal midfielder, and Maguire, a Manchester United defender, have been very important to Lee Carsley’s good start as England’s new interim boss since he was hired last month. She took over for Gareth Southgate, who quit after England lost to Spain in the Euro 2024 final.

The day after England beat Finland 2-0 at Wembley, Maguire wrote a review of the two games on Instagram. With four pictures and the words “Enjoyable camp with the lads, perfect start to the Nations League,” Maguire wrote in the caption: “Love heart and England flag emojis.”

Some people commented on that post, and Rice was one of them. He knew Maguire’s new nickname in the England team. He said, “Love it, Tony.” When someone said that, Jack Grealish responded with three smiling face emojis. Some people who liked the post were James Maddison and Youri Tielemans, who used to play for Leicester with Maddison.

Maguire played in United’s first two Premier League games after being benched for the 3-0 loss to Liverpool before the international break. Matthijs de Ligt, a new player, took his place and paired up with Lisandro Martinez in central defense. Erik ten Hag may choose this pair as his first choice defensive pair.

United will play again on Saturday when they go to Southampton. After losing two games in a row, they will be eager to get back to winning ways. Prior to the game, Ten Hag said, “We’re in a transitional phase, and we need to bring in a lot of young players.”

“We need to get the injured players back on the team.” Before anyone comes up with an excuse, I know and the team knows that we have to win every game. We will pay attention to every game and be ready to win.
