Arsenal player Declan Rice sends out a strong message to his teammates and fans on next season Premier League title race after losing their chance this season to lift the trophy
Even though Arsenal beat Everton 2-1 on the last day of the season, it wasn’t enough for them to win the Premier League. Manchester City were the winners.
Rice told his Arsenal teammates to “live with this feeling” of not winning the Premier League and use it as inspiration for the next season.
Even though Arsenal had a nearly perfect season in 2024—16 wins in 18 games—Manchester City beat them by two points and won the title after beating West Ham. Kai Havertz scored the game-winning goal in the 89th minute to give Arsenal a late win over Everton, but it wasn’t enough to beat City, who had already won their important game in hand against Tottenham.
In talking about his first season at Arsenal, Rice said, “The last few weeks have been so crazy in terms of how we’ve felt, watching other games and playing our own.” Having been in my first title race is something I don’t want to go through again, but I’m so glad I did. It has been so wonderful.
“It hurts to lose, but we can’t count on other teams to help us.” We need to think about the games where we lost points. That’s where we lost the league in the end, but we’ll be back.
“The manager is in charge of everything, and we’re all very sure of ourselves.” We’ll be better in the summer, I’m sure.
In 2022–23, Arsenal came close to beating City, but they had a bad finish and lost the title by five points. Still, the Gunners have come a long way this season thanks to the big deals they made to sign Havertz from Chelsea and Rice for £100 million. They broke records for wins (28) and points (89), scored the most goals (91) and gave up the fewest goals (29), all of which show how far they’ve come under Arteta’s structured direction.
There won’t be a break over the summer, though, because Arteta wants more from his team and leader Martin Odegaard promises to make a huge comeback. “There were a few of us walking around at the end there and we said that feeling we have now in our stomach, of losing out on a title and seeing them lift it again, starting from (Monday) and going through the summer, we need to have that feeling of what today feels like,” Rice told NBC Sports.
“They (City) have won four games in a row, so if you want to win the Premier League and are hungry, you have to live with this. We don’t want to feel this again.” Everything was set up so that we could enjoy this moment with our friends, but look, we’re going again.
“As a group, we’re very sure of ourselves, and I’m sure we’ll be stronger.” That’s what the Premier League is all about. It’s getting better and stronger, and I think we will be better for it.
