Atletico Madrid is poised to experience a financial enhancement during the January transfer window, as the departure of Arthur Vermeeren is anticipated to be officially announced.
The Belgian player did not manage to persuade Diego Simeone during his six-month tenure at the club; however, RB Leipzig has deemed him worthy of investment. In the summer, Leipzig secured the loan of Vermeeren from Atletico for a fee of €3 million, while incorporating a buyout clause amounting to €20 million.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the German club has opted to exercise the clause, which signifies a prudent business decision for Los Colchoneros, resulting in a profit of €5 million within a year for a player whom Simeone was not particularly inclined to retain.
During the current season, Vermeeren has made 22 appearances for Leipzig, contributing one assist, and has secured a starting position as the season has progressed. Last year, the 19-year-old participated in a mere 160 minutes across five matches for Atletico, having joined the team in January.
It has been reported that Vermeeren was a transaction predominantly orchestrated by the now former Sporting Director, Andrea Berta. This summer, the club also pursued Conor Gallagher; however, subsequent reports indicate that the midfield position is their primary focus should they decide to make a transfer in January.
