Barcelona midfield superstar reacts to earning La Liga award – ‘I anticipate that additional information will be forthcoming.’
After receiving the La Liga award, the Barcelona midfield maestro expressed his optimism that
additional accolades would be forthcoming. It is sometimes difficult to remember that Barcelona midfield maestro Pedri Gonzalez is only 21 years old, given the impressive feats he performs on the football arena. The midfielder, who will turn 22 on November 25, made his first-team debut for the Catalans at the age of 17 in September 2020. He has already established himself as one of the most experienced players in the Blaugrana squad and serves as one of the team commanders, just over four years later. Nevertheless, he continues to be a youthful player who has recently been awarded the La Liga Under-23 Player of the Month award for October. Pedri was presented with the honour at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper earlier today. Subsequently, he participated in a brief interview with the club’s media outlets, during which he addressed the award. While holding the trophy, the Canary Islands native expressed his satisfaction, stating, “I am pleased, but the team’s season has only just begun, and we must persevere.”
He further stated, “I will place it in the display cabinet alongside all of my other accomplishments, and I am optimistic that additional ones will follow.” The Barcelona captain acknowledged that, despite his youth, he is already perceived as a veteran. “I am still young, but I am perceived as a veteran by many, which is why I feel a bit younger with this award.” Pedri is the second Barcelona player to receive the La Liga Under-23 Player of the Month award this season, following Lamine Yamal’s recognition in August. The September award was claimed by Alberto Moleiro, a member of Las Palmas, Pedri’s former club. In the interim, Barcelona has secured a hat-trick of accolades with the addition of the Player of the Month award for October to Robert Lewandowski and the Coach of the Month award to Hansi Flick.
