Barcelona’s captain desires to remain after obtaining a new contract offer that was influenced by Flick.
FC Barcelona has made progress in securing the future of midfielder and captain Frenkie de Jong, as previously reported. The Netherlands international’s present contract is set to expire in 2026; however, negotiations regarding a new contract have been postponed for an extended period.
Nevertheless, De Jong has re-established himself as a critical member of the squad under Hansi Flick, despite experiencing some difficulties following his return from a long-term injury. Deco, the director of Barcelona, has extended his contract by three years until 2029 due to his increasing influence within the club and improved performances.
However, there will be no increase in his current salary of €18-19 million and no previous deferred payments. The renewal offer is primarily driven by Flick’s influence. Today, journalist Ferran Correas of Catalunya Radio has reported that Barcelona manager Hansi Flick’s influence has been instrumental in the renewal offer that has been extended to Frenkie de Jong.
The Barça head coach has consistently exhibited his confidence in the Dutch midfielder by restoring him to the starting lineup in recent weeks, despite the fact that he has only used him sparingly since his injury.
De Jong has indeed surpassed Marc Casado in the pecking order and is once again a critical member of the team. Consequently, Flick has been advocating for an extension of his contract, which appears to have motivated the Blaugrana to propose a new contract. De Jong has complete confidence in Flick.
The report also indicates that De Jong, who previously harboured reservations regarding his circumstances, is now committed to remaining at Barcelona. It is alleged that the former AFC Ajax star has complete faith in the German tactician and, as a result, is now expressing a willingness to extend his tenure at the club.
