Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel reveals the main reason why he substituted 30-year-old player Harry Kane vs Real Madrid during UEFA Champions League semi-final match
Thomas Tuchel has explained why he took Harry Kane off during Bayern Munich’s loss to Real Madrid.
Wednesday night, Real Madrid beat Bayern Munich 2-1 to make it to the Champions League final for the 18th time. It was one of the greatest comeback wins in the history of the competition.
Bayern had a 1-0 lead in the second leg of the semi-final until the very end. But Joselu scored twice in the 88th and 91st minutes to turn the tie around and knock out the Bundesliga leaders.
There were some questionable endings to the game. Bayern had a chance to tie it late in extra time, but an early offside flag stopped them. The event could not be looked at again by VAR because referee Szymon Marciniak had already blown his whistle to end the game.
After the game, Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel wasn’t shy about being angry with the referees. He also got some flak for the changes he made as Bayern tried to hold on to their slim lead.
After 15 minutes of normal time, the German took out both Jamal Musiala and Harry Kane because Madrid was putting more pressure on them. He then replaced attacker Leroy Sane with defender Kim Min-jae.
After Madrid scored their second goal, there were 15 minutes of extra time. After the substitutions, Bayern didn’t have a way to ease the pressure and didn’t have a real offensive threat.
Many fans and experts questioned Tuchel’s choices, but after the game, he said that all three stars were taken out because they were injured or tired.
Then he talked about Kane’s injury, which might make England fans nervous before next month’s Euro 2024 campaign.
“Kane’s back was hurt, and he couldn’t play anymore,” Tuchel told DAZN.
Tuchel said again at his press conference after the game that Kane was having “back problems.”
Bayern lost their chance to win a prize this season, and Kane will still have to wait to win his first trophy.
