Newcastle United Eye Porto Striker Samu Aghehowa for Future Transfer Move
Newcastle United are keeping tabs on Porto striker Samu Aghehowa as a potential future signing, according to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke.
O’Rourke reports that the Magpies “could land the towering forward for well below his £87 million release clause”, with sources inside the club confirming that they plan to continue monitoring the 21-year-old ahead of upcoming transfer windows.
Aghehowa, who is tied to Porto until 2029, remains a long-term target for Newcastle. However, O’Rourke suggested on The Inside Track Podcast that a January move is unlikely.
“I don’t see them going out and signing Aghehowa in January,” O’Rourke said. “He’s under contract at Porto until 2029 and has a release clause of around £87 million. Any club interested will be hoping to get him for less than that figure.”
Newcastle reportedly made a formal bid for the Spanish striker during the summer as they sought a replacement for Alexander Isak, but the deal failed to materialize. That pursuit ultimately led them to sign Nick Woltemade, who has since made an impressive start.
Despite that, Newcastle’s interest in Aghehowa hasn’t cooled. The club continues to track his development closely in Portugal.
For now, the Magpies are said to be satisfied with their current striking options, with Woltemade in fine form and Yoane Wissa nearing a return from injury. However, if Wissa’s recovery stalls or his performances dip, Aghehowa could once again emerge as a leading target for Eddie Howe’s side.
