Aston Villa will be without one of their main players when they face Newcastle United in their first Premier League match of the season.
Newcastle United will commence their 2025/26 Premier League campaign at Villa Park tomorrow, where they will participate in an exciting match against Unai Emery’s team. Villa and Newcastle were separated in the league rankings last season by a mere goal difference, and their matches are consistently highly entertaining.
During their two meetings last season, eight goals were tallied, with four goals scored by each team. This total was actually two goals lower than the ten they scored in their two matches the previous season.
There will undoubtedly be some pyrotechnics, particularly in light of the controversial conclusion to the previous season, as both teams rely on a high-tempo and entertaining style of play. Newcastle United were unable to surpass the Magpies into fifth place, despite their 1-0 loss to Everton at Old Trafford, as a result of Villa’s defeat against Manchester United.
Villa was deprived of Champions League football and the substantial prestige and revenue that accompanied it as a result of that defeat. Emery’s team ultimately suffered a 2-0 defeat; however, they believed they had taken the lead through Morgan Rogers. However, referee Thomas Bramall disallowed Rogers’ goal due to a penalty on Red Devils goalkeeper Altay Bayindir.
The referee had blown his whistle before the ball crossed the goal line, which prevented VAR from intervening and overruling his decision. Nevertheless, replays soon revealed that Rogers had not committed an infringement. The Villa bench was incensed by this decision, which resulted in the release of a statement post-match that criticized the PGMOL’s selection of Bramall as the referee for the game.
Key player of Aston Villa is suspended for the match against Newcastle United.
Although Villa’s protestations regarding the disallowed goal were legitimate, it was not the solitary factor contributing to their inability to qualify for the Champions League. Rogers scored after the team had played nearly 30 minutes with only ten players after Emiliano Martinez was dismissed.
After sprinting out of his area and colliding with Rasmus Hojlund, the Argentine international was dismissed. Martinez was issued a straight red card by Barrott for his actions, which were perceived as a denial of an evident opportunity to score a goal.
A one-match suspension is the penalty imposed by the FA for that offense. Due to his dismissal in the final game of the previous season, his suspension will be carried over to this season, resulting in his absence from the match against Newcastle United tomorrow.
Martinez was recognized as the world’s greatest goalkeeper earlier this year, a distinction that was frequently referenced by the tannoy announcer at Villa Park during their April encounter. Martinez was largely untested on that day as Villa emerged as comfortable 4-1 victors in a match that, at the time, appeared to be of great significance in the battle for Champions League qualification.
New signature Marco Bizot, who transferred from Stade Brestois to Villa this summer for an undisclosed sum, is anticipated to make his Villa debut tomorrow in absence of Martinez. Villa’s penultimate preseason match featured Bizot, who was unable to avert Marseille’s 3-1 victory at the Stade Velodrome. In contrast, Newcastle United is not concerned about suspensions prior to their match against the Villains. However, Alexander Isak is still unavailable for selection.
