Che Adams Set to Stay at Torino as Birmingham City Look Elsewhere for January Reinforcements
Che Adams continues to be linked with a return to Birmingham City, but a fresh update suggests the Blues will have to look elsewhere in January. According to Football Insider, the Scotland international is now expected to remain with Torino when the winter transfer window opens.
Birmingham City are preparing for a busy January as they attempt to revive an underwhelming Championship campaign. Despite heavy investment in the squad, performances have fallen short of expectations, prompting the club to target three key additions. A new left-back is on the agenda, along with added competition in midfield and a striker to bolster their attacking options.
With a new number nine high on the shopping list, speculation around a potential Che Adams reunion has refused to go away. However, Football Insider reports that while Birmingham have remained keen on bringing the 29-year-old back to St Andrew’s, Torino have effectively shut the door on a winter exit following Adams’ recent reintegration into the side.
Adams has started Torino’s last two matches, both of which ended in victories, strengthening the Italian club’s stance on keeping him through the second half of the season.
Links between Birmingham City and Adams have been persistent. The forward was viewed as a potential statement signing in the summer, but the Blues instead moved for Marvin Ducksch and Kyogo Furuhashi. Adams previously enjoyed a productive spell at Birmingham between 2016 and 2019, scoring 38 goals and registering 13 assists before moving on to establish himself as a Premier League regular.
A return would have mirrored the impact of Demarai Gray, who has thrived since rejoining the club after spells in the Premier League and abroad. For now, though, Adams will not be following that path.
The striker situation at Birmingham remains a concern. Jay Stansfield and Ducksch showed promising chemistry earlier in the season, with Ducksch finding form in front of goal. However, despite scoring in each of his last five Championship appearances, Birmingham have failed to score more than once in any of those matches.
Furuhashi has continued to struggle to adapt to English football, while Lyndon Dykes has largely been limited to substitute appearances and has spoken openly about his desire for more minutes ahead of next summer’s World Cup.
With attacking issues persisting, changes in the striker department still look likely — but this latest update suggests Che Adams will not be the solution in January.
