Birmingham City have confirmed further business in the January transfer window with the departure of Marc Leonard, who has joined Scottish Premiership side Hearts on loan for the remainder of the season.
Leonard could be thrown straight into the action, with the midfielder in contention to make his Hearts debut in one of the club’s most significant fixtures in decades — a top-of-the-table clash against Celtic on Sunday.
The 21-year-old is expected to be involved as Hearts look to extend their lead at the summit of the Premiership. Victory over the defending champions would move the Edinburgh side nine points clear, as they continue their push for a first league title since 1960.
Hearts boss believes Leonard’s familiarity with the club and Scottish football could prove vital.
“Marc knows the club, he understands Scottish football, what it means and what’s at stake, and that’s a really big positive for me,” he said.
“He’s clearly a very good player and he was keen to come here and be part of something that could be very special.”
Leonard’s move provides him with an opportunity for regular first-team football during a crucial stage of the season, while Birmingham City will be hoping the loan spell aids his development ahead of a potential return in the summer.
