Birmingham City vs West Brom team news: nine sidelined and two doubts ahead of Championship clash

Injury latest ahead of Birmingham City vs West Brom

Birmingham City welcome West Brom to St Andrew’s in a Championship clash that carries major implications at both ends of the table.

The Blues are pushing for a play-off spot and come into the game on a five-match unbeaten run. Confidence is high following a vital 2-1 win over Leicester City, and their home form has been particularly strong. Since Chris Davies took charge in June 2024, Birmingham have lost just once in the league on their own ground, turning St Andrew’s into a difficult venue for visiting sides.

Momentum appears to be building at the right time for Birmingham as the season enters its decisive phase. West Brom, meanwhile, find themselves in a very different situation.

The Baggies made a managerial change in January, replacing Ryan Mason with Eric Ramsay in the hope of sparking improvement. So far, however, results have not followed, with the team winless in their last five outings.

A victory could lift Birmingham into the top six, while West Brom are desperate for points to create breathing room above the relegation zone.

Birmingham City injury news

Phil Neumann is expected to miss out after picking up a muscle issue during the second half of the win over Leicester. The summer signing is not anticipated to be part of Tuesday’s squad.

Alex Cochrane remains sidelined with an ankle injury and is not forecast to return until around April, placing added responsibility on January arrival Kai Wagner.

Ethan Laird is also likely to be unavailable due to an ongoing hamstring problem that has disrupted much of his season. There is hope he could resume training soon after a long spell out.

Jack Robinson is nearing a return to training following a hamstring setback but is not expected to feature in this match. Demarai Gray is another concern, as a calf injury has kept him out since Boxing Day. A return against Leeds at the weekend is viewed as more realistic, making him doubtful here.

West Brom injury news

Chris Mepham is set to miss the game after suffering a hamstring injury against Stoke. His absence adds to defensive problems, with George Campbell and Krystian Bielik already out. That leaves Nat Phillips as the only recognised centre-back currently fit and available.

In attack, Karlan Grant is sidelined with a hamstring injury that could keep him out for around three months. Tammer Bany is also unavailable.

Mikey Johnson is expected to be involved to some extent but may start on the bench as he works his way back to full match fitness.
