Brazilian media issue a major update on the 27-year- old NUFC midfielder Bruno Guimarães following a £13m offer from Newcastle United.

Newcastle United Set to Offer Bruno Guimarães Lucrative New Deal

Bruno Guimarães has reportedly been offered a new and improved contract by Newcastle United, despite his current deal not expiring until June 2028.

The Brazilian midfielder joined the Magpies in January 2022 from French side Lyon in a £40 million transfer. Arriving when Newcastle were battling relegation, Guimarães became one of the first marquee signings under the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund’s ownership. After a brief settling-in period, he cemented his place in Eddie Howe’s starting lineup and has since become one of the club’s most influential figures.

Following a challenging 2023/24 season in which Newcastle finished seventh and narrowly missed out on European qualification, Guimarães was appointed club captain. His leadership quickly paid off, guiding the team to their first major domestic trophy in 70 years — the Carabao Cup — with a 2-1 victory over Liverpool. He then led the Magpies to Champions League qualification for the second time in three seasons, marking a historic achievement for the club.

The 27-year-old has carried his impressive form into the current campaign, scoring twice already, including a stunning strike against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League. That goal took his total to 23 league goals in 163 appearances — more than any current Newcastle player.

Since arriving on Tyneside, Guimarães has been instrumental in Newcastle’s rise, playing a vital role in their survival in 2022 with five goals in 17 appearances before helping them finish fourth and secure a Champions League spot in his first full season. His passion and work rate have made him a fan favourite at St James’ Park, a status that has only grown since taking on the captaincy.

Already among Newcastle’s top earners, Guimarães signed a five-year contract extension in October 2023 worth around £160,000 per week, which included a £100 million release clause valid only in June 2024. Despite speculation over his future, no club activated the clause, and he went on to be named captain for the 2024/25 season.

Now, fresh reports from Brazil suggest Newcastle are eager to secure his long-term future with a new five-year deal worth approximately £13 million per year — or £250,000 per week.

Speaking about his time at the club, Guimarães said:

“I’m really enjoying it here. Every time I wear the shirt, I try to play like a Geordie and give everything for the club and the city. We’ve been together for three and a half years now, and it’s been an amazing journey. Hopefully, that can continue.”
