In the 2023-24 season, Newcastle United defender Matt Targett returned to the training ground in Benton after suffering an injury during the previous season.
After suffering a hamstring injury in the beginning of November, the 28-year-old player was only able to make one start in the Premier League during the previous season. Following his recovery from the initial injury, Targett experienced an additional issue with his Achilles, which finally resulted in his being unable to participate in any further sports for the duration of the season.
Furthermore, Targett has been spotted in action for the very first time since making a brief comeback to the bench in March. This comes as he continues to work his way back to full health. Despite the fact that the defender is currently back in the gym at Newcastle’s Benton training base, he did not travel to Germany with the first-team squad.
Targett uploaded a little video of himself working out in the gym, demonstrating a specific exercise practice. Eddie Howe, the head coach of Newcastle, stated during the previous season that the defender would be given the “full summer” to recover from his Achilles injury, which turned out to be more severe than everyone had previously believed.
During the previous season, Howe made the following statement: “If we rushed him back and really hit the accelerator, then he could possibly be back for the last game.”
“However, taking all of this into consideration, it would most likely be preferable to have a full summer to recuperate.”
