BREAKING: After being obviously rejected by Newcastle United, the former Celtic F.C. 21-year-old goakeeper has successfully completed his summer transfer on a two (2) year deal
This summer, after spending two years with the club, The Magpies did not make an offer for a new contract to the goalkeeper, who is now 21 years old. Before making his debut in senior football with East Fife during the 2021-22 season, Smith started out at Celtic and worked his way up through the ranks throughout his time there.
Due to his outstanding performance in the Scottish third tier, he was offered a position in the academy of Newcastle in 2022, after undergoing an initial trial period.
Now, he is joining a Carlisle team that is attempting to secure promotion back to League One after being demoted to the lower division. The FA and EFL must to give their approval before the agreement can be finalized. Immediately after Smith’s arrival, Carlisle manager Paul Simpson made the following statement on the club website:
“Jude is a goalkeeper that we’ve had our eye on for a long. At the time of his departure from Scotland as a young boy, he was in high demand, but Newcastle was able to secure his services.
Jude Smith, the goalkeeper for Newcastle United, has found a new club after an announcement that he will be released from his current position.
After being released from his contract with Newcastle United, Jude Smith accepted a position with Carlisle United, a club in League Two.
Since then, we have been keeping track of his development, and it gives us great pleasure to acknowledge that he is now inside the structure. The addition of him to the goalkeeping department is an excellent one, and I have no doubt that he will provide Gabe and Harry with some healthy competition.
Through a message on social media, Smith announced that he would be leaving Newcastle at the conclusion of the 2023-24 season. “Big thanks to all the @nufc staff and my teammates over the last two years, been full of ups and downs and made memories to last a lifetime been a pleasure,” the teenage goalkeeper said beneath a picture of himself that he posted on social media. The picture was taken at St. James’ Park. Oh, you young man!
There is no assurance that any of them will play during the preseason; nonetheless, we will evaluate all three of them. I have no doubt that individuals will examine the squad numbers when they are released and draw conclusions based on those numbers; nonetheless, they all must compete during the preseason.
Each of them must demonstrate that they are deserving of being involved. There is no point in them both sitting around because they need games to develop, so we will look at it and evaluate it as we go along. If it is the case that the two younger ones aren’t playing, then there is no purpose in them both sitting about. All of them are coming in to demonstrate to us that they are willing to put in a lot of effort and do everything in their power to be a part of the group.
