Birmingham City have unveiled fresh images of their proposed 62,000-seat stadium, showcased during a special launch event on Thursday. The ambitious project, designed by Heatherwick Studio in partnership with MANICA Architecture, marks a major milestone in the club’s long-term vision.
Club chairman and co-owner Tom Wagner expressed his excitement following the reveal, praising everyone involved in bringing the concept to life. A presentation video accompanied the event, featuring former Blues star Jude Bellingham and co-owner Tom Brady, who confirmed that the venue is expected to host future NFL fixtures.
Currently operating under the working title The Birmingham City Powerhouse, the stadium design is said to be inspired by the rich heritage of the West Midlands. Wagner highlighted the deep connection he and his Knighthead colleagues have developed with the city and its people, describing the project as a chance to deliver something truly iconic for an often underrated region.
Wagner also outlined the club’s ambitious timeline, claiming the Powerhouse could be completed within five years. The state-of-the-art venue will include an interchangeable playing surface and a fully retractable roof capable of closing in just 20 minutes.
Standing before a dramatic rendering of the stadium, Wagner said: “With the Powerhouse behind us, this city will no longer be overlooked. It will shine as a global landmark — a venue capable of attracting top sporting and entertainment events.”
He added that the Powerhouse is both a tribute to Birmingham’s proud history and a bold declaration of the city’s future potential.
