After a phone conversation with Sir Alex Ferguson, ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI agreed to join Manchester United… until Borussia Dortmund blocked the agreement.
SunSport conducted an exclusive interview with the 35-year-old Polish forward as he paid tribute to former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp after his departure.
Lewandowski spent four years at Dortmund under Jurgen Klopp, during which time he struck 103 goals in 187 games.
However, he was on the verge of leaving in 2012 after two seasons when he attempted to join Manchester United.
Furthermore, he now recollects discussing the transfer with Sir Alex, only to have Dortmund decline the offer.
During the press conference announcing his partnership with gaming company G2A, he stated, “I must admit that my intention was to attend Manchester United.”
“At the time of our conversation, Sir Alex Ferguson and I were both certain of my position.”
“I was 22 or 23 years old when Sir Alex called me, after having lived in Dortmund for one to two years.” It is the height of Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United, and you cannot refuse him. I made up my mind that I would like to join Manchester United.
“Nevertheless, Dortmund ultimately declined.” I was therefore obligated to respect this.
Dortmund had just won back-to-back Bundesliga championships at the time.

And although they were unable to replicate the achievement in Lewandowski’s last two seasons with the club, Klopp’s squad did advance to the Champions League final in 2013, ultimately succumbing to Bayern Munich at Wembley.
Following his 2014 transfer to Bayern, Lewandowski won an additional eight Bundesliga titles, in addition to the Champions League in 2020.
In the interim, Sir Alex collected himself after the Lewandowski setback and proceeded with the acquisition of Robin van Persie, who scored 26 goals to propel Fergie to the final day of his thirteen Premier League titles.
Promoting the gaming company G2A, Lewandowski was conversing with SunSport while currently at Barcelona.
