BREAKING: Fulham has brought to light the most significant issue that Newcastle United is facing after their Premier League match victory against Newcastle

One former Celtic player said that Newcastle United’s main strength has been “obliterated” this season.

The first loss for Eddie Howe’s team this season came on Saturday afternoon when Marco Silva’s Fulham beat them badly. The Cottagers earned their win, and they could have scored more than three goals on a very poor day for the Magpies in the capital.

Even though they had only lost once all season, the loss to Fulham felt like it was inevitable after a string of poor games. Howe’s team hasn’t really found their best in any of their games so far this season. They were lucky to beat Wolves last time out because Harvey Barnes and Fabian Schar scored two amazing goals.

They didn’t make it to European football because of a poor end to last season. In the summer, they only added two senior outfield players… The last few months have been rough on Tyneside. Craig Burley, a former Celtic and Chelsea player, has picked out one area of the field where Howe’s team has had trouble all season and says they need to fix it if they want to be in the running for European qualification.

It was their backbone that held them together. Burley talked to ESPN. “That was the base.” It’s not happening anymore with Trippier, Botman, Schar, and Burn.

“Botman is hurt, and they want Trippier to leave; they want to get rid of him. Dan Burn is playing center back. Livramento was playing full back, but Trippier took his place.

“They had a strong back line that gave them a base.” That has been wiped out.

“Last year, injuries wiped it out.” Pope, the center-halves, and Trippier all lost their shape. Next week, Newcastle’s back four is a mystery, which is a big problem.

Newcastle United will next play AFC Wimbledon away in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night. Then, next weekend, they will host Manchester City in the Premier League. In the Premier League, they haven’t beaten City since January 2019.
