BREAKING: Manchester United confirms the 21-year-old footballer Rasmus Hojlund’s new jersey number

United Football Club has announced that Rasmus Hojlund has been given a new shirt number at Old Trafford for the upcoming season.

Rasmus Hojlund, a striker for Manchester United, has been given the No.9 shirt for the 2024–25 season.

The Dane moved from Atalanta to United in August of last year and was given the No. 11 shirt. He became the club’s first-choice striker right away, and by the end of his first season in England, he had scored 16 goals.

However, since Anthony Martial left the club last month, the 21-year-old has been given the famous No.9 shirt. A lot of famous players, like Sir Bobby Charlton, Andy Cole, and Dimitar Berbatov, have worn that number at Old Trafford before him.

This week, Hojlund went back to Carrington for pre-season training. He wore the No. 9 shirt for Denmark at the European Championship in the summer. He wore the same number for SK Sturm Graz too.

Since Hojlund is now wearing the No. 9 shirt, it’s possible that new player Joshua Zirkzee will be given the No. 11 shirt. In his first season at Bologna, in 2022–23, the Dutch player wore that number. Last season, he was given the No. 9 shirt.

Recently, Zirkzee said that he thought Hojlund would get the No.9 shirt, but he also said, “That depends a bit on Rasmus Hojlund.” He’s already there, and he can also score.

“He has 11, so I can see why he would want No. 9 now, even though it’s free.” I’ll take 11 then. I had 11 at Bologna too, so it doesn’t really matter to me.

If Zirkzee, 23, gets the No. 11 shirt, he will follow in the footsteps of some great former United stars, most notably Ryan Giggs.
