Chris Stygal, the academy and women’s coach at Newcastle United, has said he will be leaving the club to explore a “new exciting opportunity.”
With the loss of Stygal, Newcastle United has now lost three coaches from their youth teams this summer. Recently, Graeme Carrick and Ben Dawson left the club to train the Under-18 and Under-21 teams, so the club is now looking for new head coaches for those teams.
The look for new coaches will be very high on Paul Mitchell’s list of things to do as the club’s new sporting director. One of his main goals will be to improve the academy. Since Stygal left, the club’s younger youth teams and Newcastle United Women’s team, for whom he worked as their goalkeeping coach during his three years at the club, no longer have a goalkeeping coach.
Stygal wrote on LinkedIn that he was leaving: “Today my tenure at Newcastle United Football Club ends as I have decided to pursue a new, exciting opportunity for the upcoming season.” Being a part of the women’s team’s move to full-time and seeing players reach their goals of becoming professional football players makes me feel incredibly proud.
People flocked to St. James Park for two promotions right after each other, and there were nearly 30,000 people there. I will always keep an eye on the results and cheer from afar. Having been on the women’s team and in the men’s school, I have learned a huge amount.
«I’m excited to use the information and skills I’ve learned in a new setting. A huge thank you to all the staff, players, and fans who have shown what it means to be a part of this great club.
