Breaking news: 2025/26 season of Newcastle United Seven players have been added to the Premier League squad, and the inclusion of two individuals has been explained

During the course of this week, Liverpool United and the other 19 teams competing in the Premier League are expected to announce their respective squad lists.
An announcement on the 25-man squad list that will represent Newcastle United throughout the first half of the Premier League season is about to be made.

Following the first international break of the new season, which occurred during the summer transfer window, the Premier League will reveal the squad lists of all twenty clubs in advance of the round of fixtures that will take place this weekend.

This announcement will be made by Newcastle United in advance of their encounter against Wolverhampton Wanderers for the second season in a row. In the previous season, it occurred prior to a victory on the road at Molineux by a score of 2-1. In the current season, the squads will be confirmed prior to a matchup at St. James’ Park, where both teams are attempting to earn their first victories of the new season together.

Given that the summer has witnessed the greatest turnover of players since the club was promoted back to the Premier League in 2017, the squad that Newcastle has assembled will make for interesting reading.

Breaking news: 2025/26 season of Newcastle United Seven players have been added to the Premier League squad, and the inclusion of two individuals has been explained

All of the following players have joined the club: Anthony Elanga, Aaron Ramsdale, Malick Thiaw, Jacob Ramsey, Nick Woltemade, and Yoane Wissa. On the other hand, the exits of Callum Wilson, Jamal Lewis, Isaac Hayden, Lloyd Kelly, Sean Longstaff, Martin Dubravka, and Alexander Isak have been confirmed.

Additionally, loan exits have been negotiated for Odysseas Vlachodimos and Matt Targett during this summer session.

Rules governing the Premier League squads Squad lists for the Premier League are typically filed at least one week following the close of the transfer window, but before to the club’s next competitive match.

Eddie Howe has been forced to choose up to 25 senior players who are eligible to play for Newcastle in the Premier League during the first half of the 2025/26 season. This is because of the circumstances that have arisen. It is important to note that the rules governing squad lists do not apply during transfer window periods. Additionally, a fresh squad list will be issued after the winter transfer window has finally closed.

When it comes to the Premier League, players who were born on or after January 1, 2004, they are exempt from having to be listed in a 25-man squad. Additionally, there may be no more than 17 players who do not meet the criteria for homegrown players.

A player is considered to be a “homegrown player” if they have been registered with any FA-affiliated club for a minimum of three seasons prior to their 21st birthday, regardless of their country. It is important to differentiate this from the more convoluted “club-trained” player regulation, which is only applicable to UEFA competitions.

The Carabao Cup and the FA Cup are two competitions in which players can still participate even if they are not named on the official squad list of their respective clubs.

Members of Newcastle United’s first team who were not selected for the club’s Premier League squad of 25 players
Due to the fact that they are too young, two first-team players will not be required to be included in Newcastle’s 25-man roster, as stipulated by the Premier League rules. Their names are Lewis Miley, who is 19 years old, and Lewis Hall, who is 21 years old.

Hall was born after January 1, 2004, despite the fact that he is 21 years old. As a consequence of this, he meets the age requirements that prevent him from being named to the squad, although he will be required to do so beginning with the following season.

During the previous season, William Osula did not have to be included in the squad; however, after turning 22 in the summer, he is now had to be included. Because of the summer arrivals and the fact that Osula is getting older, Newcastle now has exactly 25 senior players that can be accommodated in a Premier League roster of 25 players.

Four of the twenty-five players are goalkeepers, and one of them is Harrison Ashby, a right-back who is 23 years old.

Since joining Newcastle from West Ham United in January 2023, Ashby has not participated in a match that is considered to be a competitive match for the club. During the summer, he was provided with the opportunity to move on loan; however, he was unable to secure a move before the deadline day.

The decision of whether or not to include Ashby in Newcastle’s 25-man squad will serve as an indicator of whether or not the club is close to reaching an agreement regarding the defender’s departure to another country. The clubs themselves are ultimately responsible for making the ultimate decision, despite the fact that the Premier League guidance urges clubs to include all players who are qualified and available in their squad list.

In preparation for their Champions League campaign, Newcastle has officially submitted their squad for the competition. The team will begin their campaign at home against Barcelona.

In contrast to the Premier League, the rules governing the squads in UEFA are distinct in that there are two distinct squad lists and the qualifying requirements for players are different.

UEFA regulations stipulate that players born on or after January 1, 2004, are required to be included in a “List B.” This is in contrast to the Premier League, which enables players born on or after that date to be excluded from the initial 25-man squad list. These players, including Lewis Hall and Lewis Miley, are included on List B, which is an unlimited list of players who were born on or after January 1, 2004, and who have played for the club in question for a minimum of two years.

But any under-21 players who have recently joined the club would have to be named in the main ‘List A’, which is limited to a maximum of 25 players. Only four of those twenty-five must have club training.

Players who have been contracted to the club in question for a minimum of three years and are between the ages of 15 and 21 are considered to be club-trained players. Following the exits of Paul Dummett, Elliot Anderson and Sean Longstaff, Newcastle have no senior club-trained players to include on their List A. As a result, their List A squad for the Champions League has been reduced to 21 senior players with Jamaal Lascelles, John Ruddy, Mark Gillespie and Ashby all omitted.

But the Premier League squad list is more straightforward.
