Aberdeen secured the Scottish Cup trophy with a thrilling 4-3 penalty shootout victory over Celtic on Saturday.
The contest was extended to extra time and a penalty shootout, which Aberdeen won, after both teams played to a 1-1 draw.
Aberdeen’s 35-year quest for Scottish Cup glory was finally ended by Aberdeen custodian Dimitar Mitov, who made significant saves both before and during a penalty shoot-out.
Mitov assists Aberdeen in securing the 2025 Scottish Cup by saving penalties from Johnston and McGregor in the shoot-out.
“There are no words.” Mitov stated to BBC Scotland, “There was widespread scepticism regarding our ability to achieve this goal; however, we were confident that a well-defined strategy, diligent effort, and adherence to instructions would result in our triumph.”
The team was exceptional in the final, and they experienced several fortunate instances during the game, according to him.
“Penalties are occasionally determined by chance.” We capitalised on our good fortune. We are the cup champions; the method by which we achieved this is of no consequence.
“Thelin is the most exceptional manager with whom I have ever collaborated.” On a daily basis, the manner in which he supervises and instructs us, as well as the minute details he incorporates. He consistently declared, “When we secure the championship.” There were no conditions.
The lads adopted that mentality, and we were convinced of it. When, not if, was the response that was given by all. That was the pivotal moment of the day.
Dave Cormack, Aberdeen’s chairman, stated that the team has been eagerly anticipating the opportunity to receive some recognition.
According to him, Aberdeen placed a spanner in the works for Celtic, who were the favourites heading into the match.
“It has been a long time coming; it is wonderful for our supporters and the north east,” asserted Aberdeen chairman Dave Cormack in an interview with BBC Scotland.
“I am simply thrilled with our performance today; I am pleased for Jimmy and all of the players.”
Cormack described the situation to BBC Scotland as “an awful lot of people wrote us off today, lambs to the slaughter,” as some of them stated.
Aberdeen defender Jack Milne stated that lifting the Scottish Cup is the most rewarding experience of his career.
“We were convinced. We were all aware that we were capable of arriving here and achieving this outcome. It is truly remarkable. “It is a dream come true,” Milne stated to BBC Scotland.
