The newest news about Newcastle United: Amanda Staveley thinks that Newcastle United are in “safe” hands and that their owners are “incredible.”
A lot of people were shocked when Amanda Staveley and her husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi left Newcastle United last summer. They had been the club’s public face since the takeover in October 2021.
Staveley was a key member of the board during the first three years of new ownership and helped get a deal done that ended Mike Ashley’s 15-year rule as owner. This has made her a legendary figure in Newcastle United’s young history. When Staveley and Ghodoussi left as co-owners of the club last summer, there was a sense that the club didn’t have any leadership. Key players at Newcastle United have done a good job of filling that void over the past year or so.
Last but not least, Staveley has been linked with a possible takeover bid for Tottenham Hotspur. Daniel Levy quit as chairman of Spurs last week, and several news stories said that Staveley’s PCP International Finance Limited and a group led by Dr. Roger Kennedy and Wing-Fai-Ng through Firehawk Holdings Limited were interested in buying the north London club.
The people who own Tottenham Hotspur now say that the club is not for sale. PCP has also said in a statement that they are not going to bid for the club.
Amanda Staveley’s “incredible” statement about Newcastle United
And those stories have brought Staveley back into the spotlight. During an appearance on the High Performance Podcast, a letter from a Newcastle United fan thanking her for her work on Tyneside was read out loud. “We are thankful for the money that was spent, the progress that was made on the pitch, and finally being able to see our club compete again.” A sports club is more than just a business, though.
“It’s a neighbourhood, it’s a family.” Family relationships depend on talking to each other, being warm, and understanding. Newcastle United fears losing a vital link to its soul if Mandy doesn’t lead the way in that area.
“The passionate and loyal black and white army.” For the club to find its voice again, get back in touch with its fans, and bring back some of the much-needed warmth that Amanda Staveley so brilliantly gave.
In his letter back, Staveley was very emotional and said that PIF, RB Sports and Media, and Newcastle United are “incredible” partners for each other: Staveley replied, “That letter is really hard to hear because that is so lovely.”
Because of this, I went to Newcastle because the fans are so great there. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done to leave, and it took me a long time to understand why.
“You need to help the club.” PIF is going to be a great partner for both Newcastle and the Reubens.
“That’s why it’s in very good hands.” So many kind people with big hearts give so much to that club, the neighbourhood, and everything else.
“It was an honour for me.” I would think to myself every day, “God, I’m so lucky to have this job.”
