Brendan Rodgers has stepped down as Celtic manager with immediate effect, just over 24 hours after the team’s 3-1 defeat to Hearts in the Scottish Premiership.
A club statement read: “Brendan leaves Celtic with our gratitude for the part he has played in a period of sustained success for the club, and we wish him every success in his future endeavours.”
Celtic confirmed that the process to appoint a new permanent manager is already underway and that fans will be updated as soon as possible.
In the meantime, former Celtic boss Martin O’Neill and ex-player Shaun Maloney will oversee first-team duties on an interim basis, with further details to follow.
Rodgers departs with the Hoops currently sitting second in the Premiership table on 17 points, eight adrift of league leaders Hearts.
