Charlton sign Cuba international Onel Hernandez on short-term deal
Charlton Athletic have completed the signing of Cuba winger Onel Hernandez on a short-term contract.
The 32-year-old, who left Norwich City in the summer after a seven-year spell, brings a wealth of experience to The Valley. During his time with the Canaries, Hernandez made 210 appearances, scoring 15 goals, and played a key role in two Championship title-winning campaigns.
The Addicks currently sit seventh in the table and are unbeaten in their last three matches. Speaking to the club’s website, Hernandez expressed his excitement about the move:
“I’m really happy to be here. I’ve known Nathan [Jones] for a long time and faced his teams before. He’s a top coach who is clear about what he wants from his players. After speaking with him, I immediately knew this was the right place for me.”
Before arriving in England, Hernandez played in Germany for Arminia Bielefeld, Werder Bremen, Wolfsburg, and Eintracht Braunschweig. He joined Norwich in 2018 and later enjoyed loan spells at Middlesbrough and Birmingham City during the 2021-22 season.
At international level, he has earned 14 caps for Cuba, scoring four goals.
