Elliot Anderson could be heading back to where it all began.
The Newcastle-born midfielder, who left St James’ Park for Nottingham Forest in a £35 million deal last summer, is now being linked with a sensational return to Tyneside.
Under Ross Wilson — now Newcastle’s new director of football — strengthening the midfield is a key priority, and Anderson’s name has quickly re-emerged at the top of the list. The 22-year-old has been outstanding for Forest, becoming one of the Premier League’s brightest talents, guiding his side into Europe and earning four senior England caps along the way.’
Reports from The i Paper claim Newcastle are “actively exploring” a deal to bring Anderson home. The move would see Wilson reunite with the player he once signed for Forest, this time as part of his new Magpies project.
Eddie Howe hasn’t hidden his admiration either. Speaking recently, the Newcastle boss admitted:
“From my side, I’d love him back. It’s a shame how it ended, but at that time, our hands were tied.”
The Magpies were forced to cash in on Anderson last summer to avoid a points deduction — a decision Howe called “painful but necessary.” Now, with the club in a stronger financial position, a reunion could be on the cards.
