BREAKING NEWS: Following his dismissal from Manchester United, Former Man United coach Erik ten Hag has indicated that he is open to returning to management
A possible comeback to management for Erik ten Hag, who formerly served as the manager of Manchester United, is being considered by Bayer Leverkusen, a German club.
It has been claimed that Erik ten Hag, who once managed Manchester United, has been given permission to take over as the head coach of Bayer Leverkusen.
Following the announcement made by Xabi Alonso earlier this month that he would be leaving at the conclusion of the current season, the German club is currently searching for a new manager. There is widespread suspicion that Alonso will take over for Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid.
Following his dismissal from United in October of last year, Ten Hag, who is 55 years old, has been out of management. Fabrizio Romano, an Italian journalist, claims that the Dutchman has “said yes” to taking over at Leverkusen and has agreed to sign a contract that would last for two years.
Romano, on the other hand, has claimed that Ten Hag is waiting to learn of Leverkusen’s ultimate choice after they had conducted discussions with a number of other contenders to succeed Alonso.
Ten Hag, who was in charge of Old Trafford for a little more than two years and won two major titles during that time, is said to have made taking over at Leverkusen his top objective according to reports. On the other hand, it has been stated that Ajax players are still considering rehiring their previous manager.
After experiencing the joy of winning the Bundesliga the previous year, Leverkusen finished the current season in second place, 13 points behind the current champions Bayern Munich.
Despite this, they have secured their spot in the Champions League for the following season by finishing in second place despite the competition.
Under the assumption that Leverkusen is successful in appointing Ten Hag as their new manager, the Dutchman will be reunited with Matej Kovar, who formerly worked as a custodian for United, at the BayArena. It was in August of 2023 that he became a member of the Bundesliga team. Since then, he has played 32 games for the club and has maintained 16 clean sheets.
Alonso, who is leaving his position as general manager of Leverkusen, has been in command of the Bundesliga club for a little under three years since he was appointed in October 2022. The Bundesliga, the DFB-Pokal, and the DFL-Supercup were all won by them during the 2023–2024 season, which was the year when he guided them to victory in all three competitions at the same time.
Additionally, he led Leverkusen to the final of the Europa League in the previous season, but his team was defeated by Atalanta by a score of 3-0. Their extraordinary 2023–24 campaign included only one loss across all competitions, and that was the only one they suffered.
