Former Ipswich Town Captain Mick McNeil Passes Away Aged 85
Former Ipswich Town skipper Mick McNeil has passed away at the age of 85.
The former full-back, who earned nine caps for England, made 173 appearances for the Tractor Boys between 1964 and 1972 and played a key role in the team that won the Second Division title during the 1967–68 campaign.
Ipswich Town paid tribute to their former captain on social media, writing:
“The club is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former captain Mick McNeil. Once a Blue, always a Blue.”

McNeil began his professional career with Middlesbrough, making his debut at just 18 and going on to feature in 193 matches for his hometown club.
He received his first England call-up while still playing in the Second Division with Boro and earned nine international caps, the last of which came against Luxembourg when he was just 21 years old.
Middlesbrough also paid their respects, saying:
“Our thoughts are with Mick’s family and friends at this sad time.”
Following his retirement from football, McNeil went on to run a successful chain of sports shops, continuing his connection to the game he loved.
