Breaking News: Mauricio Pochettino has officially been sacked as Chelsea coach
Mauricio Pochettino, who was manager of Chelsea for just one season, has left the club by mutual agreement.
The 52-year-old Pochettino took over as manager of Chelsea on July 1. He signed a two-year deal with the chance of a third year.
The Argentine was under a lot of pressure after a disappointing first half of the season, but they finished sixth in the Premier League thanks to a run of five straight wins.
Also, Chelsea came in second place in the Carabao Cup and made it to the FA Cup semi-finals.
“Thank you to the Chelsea ownership group and sporting directors for the possibilities,” said Pochettino.
“The club is now strategically placed to keep moving forward in the Premier League and Europe in the years to come.”
Chelsea is now looking for a new boss and has recently shown interest in Kieran McKenna of Ipswich, Ruben Amorim of Sporting, and Vincent Kompany of Burnley.
After firing Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter, Pochettino was Chelsea’s sixth regular manager in five years. Frank Lampard took over for a short time at the end of the 2022–23 season.
The sporting directors, Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, said, “On behalf of everyone at Chelsea, we would like to thank Mauricio for his service this season.”
“He will be welcome back to Stamford Bridge any time and we wish him all the very best in the future in his coaching career.”
Also no longer with the team are coaches Jesus Perez, Miguel d’Agostino, Toni Jimenez, and Sebastiano Pochettino.
