FootMercato in France reports that Newcastle United have agreed to sign Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly. Kelly could be on his way to Newcastle this summer on a free move.

The English center back will be leaving the Cherries at the end of the season after five years with the team. He may be going to St. James’ Park.

Kelly would work with boss Eddie Howe again at Newcastle. Howe coached Kelly, who is 25 years old, at Bournemouth during the 2019–20 season. Kelly played eight times in the Premier League for Howe’s team before they were demoted to the Championship. They will be back in the top flight in 2022.

Kelly has played 139 times for the Cherries in his five years with the team, but this season he has been hurt a lot. The center back has only played in 21 Premier League games for the Cherries so far and is currently out with a hip injury.

Newcastle had to deal with competition for Kelly.

The Sun says that Tottenham and Milan were both interested in Kelly last year. Bournemouth turned down a £20 million offer from the North London club. Spurs were looking for a replacement for Micky van de Ven, who was hurt and will not be able to play until 2024.

Newcastle is also having injury problems right now, and their star back Sven Botman will not be able to play next season. Following an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in March, the 24-year-old Dutch player has been unable to play for at least six months. Botman will not be able to play in the European Championship this summer because of his illness.

Kelly, a 1.90m center back who can also play on the left side, was described by former Bristol City manager Lee Johnson as a “unbelievable kid” in The Athletic. The addition of Kelly will give manager Eddie Howe more choices in the defense.

New Haven Adarabioyo needs you to step up and chase.
This summer, Newcastle wants to add to their team, but they will have to follow the rules for Financial Fair Play (FFP). Kelly’s free transfer is a great move for the club, which doesn’t want to spend too much on players and might even have to sell its top players.

Following not being able to make any purchases in January, Newcastle are now focusing on the upcoming free agents this summer. Fulham back Tosin Adarabioyo is said to be on the Magpies’ list of possible targets.

The 26-year-old turned down a contract extension with the London team earlier this year, so Marco Silva hasn’t had him in his Premier League group for the last two weeks. By adding Adarabioyo, Newcastle would have more choices at the back as they try to play in Europe again next year and at least make it to the Conference League.

The Magpies are currently sixth in the Premier League and have won five of their last seven games, even though Howe said earlier that he couldn’t add to the team during the January transfer window because of FFP rules.
