Breaking news: Newcastle United is now in negotiations for a thirty million pound transfer, and personal conditions have been agreed upon, according to reports
James Trafford, who was formerly playing for Burnley, has been acquired by Newcastle United in a new approach this summer.
Burnley turned down two offers from Newcastle to purchase Trafford during the summer of 2017, despite the fact that the club had verbally agreed to be on personal terms with the goalkeeper.
As a result of achieving promotion back to the Premier League on their very first attempt, the Clarets are now in a more advantageous position to negotiate. And the performances of Trafford were a significant reason for this, as the 22-year-old goalkeeper maintained 29 clean sheets in 45 games, which contributed to the team’s achievement of a second-place finish with 100 points.
The effect of this is that Trafford’s value has significantly climbed over the course of the past year, with Burnley apparently placing a value on the goalie that is greater than thirty million pounds every year.
Sky Sports has provided them with an update on the transfer of James Trafford.
Sky Sports reports that Newcastle are now in negotiations with Burnley to acquire Trafford and are in the process of arranging a transfer cost for the player currently in their possession.
According to the source, Newcastle would like to have Trafford compete with Nick Pope for the position of No. 1 goalkeeper in the upcoming season rather than looking for a successor for the position. Due to the fact that they have once again qualified for the Champions League, the Magpies will be contending on multiple fronts throughout the 2025/26 season.
It was revealed by The Gazette that Newcastle engaged in provisional discussions with Burnley a month ago, and they are now prepared to make a deal in preparation for the upcoming season.
James Trafford and Newcastle United have reached an agreement on personal terms.
Considering that a verbal agreement was reached between the two parties over the summer of 2017, it is believed that personal terms will not be an issue if Newcastle is able to reach a transfer fee deal with Burnley.
The parameters that Manchester United’s representatives agreed upon with Newcastle during the summer of last year are still considered to be “valid” in advance of the summer transfer season, according to transfer analyst Fabrizio Romano.
During the summer of 2024, Romano tweeted that Newcastle had reached an agreement with James Trafford over personal terms, and that the verbal pact is still in effect. He is still at the top of the list to be Newcastle’s new goalkeeper for the upcoming season.
A transfer to Newcastle United was something that James Trafford “really wanted.”
Recently, Manchester United manager David Trafford revealed a potential deal that he “really wanted” to take place during the summer of last year. He did not specifically name Newcastle.
During an interview with former goalkeeper Ben Foster on Fozcast, Manchester United player Trafford stated, “During the summer of 2024, I was interested in moving because the club I was very close to joining was a good fit for me at the time.”
The relocation was a wonderful opportunity for me, as I had a strong belief in it and a strong desire to make it. Not because I didn’t want to compete in the Championship, but because I didn’t have the self-esteem or the humiliation to say, “I’m better than Championship.” You can only demonstrate that you are superior to something by doing and demonstrating it to other people.
“It was just when the opportunity and a situation that you believe suits you can happen, you should take it and you should go for it,” she said.
“So, I was interested in moving, and it was very close to happening, but it did not finish up that way. Throughout the preseason, the manager, Scott Parker, was quite helpful to me because I was obviously in a bad attitude because I wanted to move.
Trafford shown his professionalism by earning his position back in the Burnley team for the opening game of the 2024-25 season. Since then, he hasn’t looked back, despite the fact that he was disappointed that the transfer didn’t go through.
Nevertheless, his goals are still very apparent.
He continued by saying, “That is where I’ve always been aiming for, the top of the Premier League.” Everyone has a want to visit that location, and everyone has a desire to play there.
I am aware that in order to get there, you need to play games. This will ensure that when I do go back, that I am prepared for whatever I end up doing, and that I am in the best possible position to perform.
