Newcastle United is currently in the process of acquiring a striker during the final two weeks of the summer transfer window.
Newcastle’s pursuit of Yoane Wissa has reached a standstill, eliciting comparisons to Liverpool and Alexander Isak.
For more than a month, the Magpies have been in negotiations to acquire Wissa from Brentford; however, they have yet to finalize a contract. Newcastle’s offer of £25 million for the 28-year-old was declined by the Bees last month.
Wissa, who has a year remaining on his contract at the Gtech Community Stadium with an option, is now the subject of allegations that Brentford is seeking £60 million for him. Newcastle will not negotiate such a fee, as the striker is valued at approximately £35 million due to his age and contractual obligations. However, Brentford is the one with the upper hand in this scenario.
Wissa was absent from Brentford’s opening weekend loss to Nottingham Forest due to the transfer interest, and he has since deleted all references to the club from his Instagram account. In an effort to expedite his transfer to Liverpool, Isak also failed to attend Newcastle’s opening weekend stalemate against Aston Villa.
However, the wantaway forwards are contractually bound to clubs that, in theory, would prefer not to dispose of them. Newcastle’s pursuit of Wissa is expected to have a significant impact on Liverpool’s prospects of signing Isak, making the final fornight of the transfer window an intriguing one.
Newcastle would pursue the acquisition of an additional striker prior to permitting Isak to join Liverpool, even if they sign Wissa.
Consequently, Newcastle maintains an inventory of additional offensive alternatives.
Jorgen Strand Larsen, a forward for Wolves, is being pursued by Newcastle United.
Jorgen Strand Larsen, a striker for Wolverhampton Wanderers, is one of the players on Newcastle’s roster following his impressive 14-goal debut season in the Premier League.
Following an initial loan stint at Celta Vigo, the 25-year-old has recently finalized a permanent transfer to Wolves for a sum of £23 million.
Wissa and Strand Larsen are both considered potential replacements for Callum Wilson, who departed Newcastle earlier this summer.
Although Newcastle’s acquisition of either player will have an effect on Isak’s future at St. James’ Park, it would not authorize his departure to join Liverpool.
Although Strand Larsen would be amenable to joining Newcastle, it may be challenging to negotiate an agreement with Wolves.
Wolves respond to Newcastle United’s interest in a transfer following the sale of Manchester United.
Strand Larsen may prove to be a more appealing alternative for Newcastle if the alternative is nonexistent, as the club is currently facing a lack of available targets and time.
Currently, The Magpies have not made a formal offer for the Norwegian international.
However, talkSPORT reports that Newcastle’s head coach, Eddie Howe, has consulted with the player’s former mentors to obtain a character reference.
Nevertheless, Wolves have “no intention” of selling Strand Larsen, as they have already transferred the top scorer of the previous season, Matheus Cunha, to Manchester United this summer. Newcastle was also interested in Cunha at the outset of the window; however, Manchester United promptly executed a deal by activating the Brazilian’s release clause.
Newcastle’s initial disappointment with the transfer window may prove to be even more detrimental in the future, as it has directly affected their prospects of acquiring a striker.
