Breaking news: NFL hits two more Detroit Lions players with penalties in wake of Brian Branch suspension

The Detroit Lions have turned the page on their clash with the Kansas City Chiefs as they gear up for a Monday Night Football showdown against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

But fallout from last week’s fiery postgame scuffle continues to make headlines. After cornerback Brian Branch received a one-game suspension for sparking the altercation, two more Lions players have now been hit with fines.

The NFL confirmed on Saturday that defensive tackle Tyler Lacy was fined $5,722 for an incident early in the third quarter, while linebacker Alex Anzalone received a $12,172 fine for unnecessary roughness late in the fourth. In total, the league issued 21 fines stemming from Week 6 action.

Anzalone’s punishment sparked frustration among Detroit fans, many of whom felt the play didn’t merit a fine — especially with no Kansas City players penalized for their involvement in the heated encounter.

“Is this a joke?!” one fan wrote, while another added, “The league is so soft.” Others echoed similar sentiments, criticizing what they saw as inconsistent officiating and discipline.

Meanwhile, Brian Branch’s appeal of his suspension was denied, meaning the cornerback will sit out Monday’s matchup against the 5-1 Buccaneers, who currently sit one game ahead of Detroit in the NFC standings. With both teams among the conference’s frontrunners, the primetime meeting could prove pivotal in shaping the playoff picture later this season.
