Only time will reveal how many Sheffield Wednesday fans will actually turn up for the clash with Middlesbrough — but the visitors are certainly travelling in strong numbers.
Close to **4,000 Middlesbrough supporters** are set to make the trip to Hillsborough next week, eager to see their team continue their solid away form this season. In fact, the number of travelling fans could even **outnumber the home crowd**, with many Wednesday supporters planning to boycott the fixture — including some **season ticket holders**.
While Owls fans have sold out their away allocation for the weekend’s trip to Charlton Athletic, a **mass stay-away** is expected for the midweek home game against Middlesbrough. Boro, meanwhile, have confirmed that their full **3,699-ticket allocation** has been snapped up, stating on their website:
> “Tickets for our away match against Sheffield Wednesday have now sold out. The full allocation of 3,699 has been sold, with Boro once again backed by a capacity away end. Thank you for your support.”
The **Sheffield Wednesday Supporters’ Trust** has urged fans to “enact a full boycott” of the game against Rob Edwards’ side as part of their growing protest against owner **Dejphon Chansiri**, while the **‘Not a Pound in the Ground’** campaign continues to push for financial disengagement from the club’s current regime.
In a statement, the Trust said:
> “The Middlesbrough game is a prime opportunity to send a clear message to Chansiri through the national media — that we will not keep funding our own decline. Your empty seat will speak louder than a thousand words. We encourage fans to watch the match at their local pub, keeping your hard-earned money in the Sheffield community.”
They added that while their **defunding campaign** has already seen some success, **season ticket revenue** remains the owner’s biggest financial lifeline:
> “Every pound spent inside the ground helps prolong Chansiri’s destructive tenure. Every penny saved for a new era brings us one step closer to a brighter future.”
