In the Scottish Premiership last season, the video refereeing caused controversy at Celtic and other teams in the league. Not a week passed without controversy.
In October 2022, VAR was implemented, and Celtic was promptly penalized for a peculiar error at Hearts, which resulted in a penalty for Ange Postecoglou’s team.
It is true that advancements have been made in the past nearly three years; however, Ian Maxwell, the chief executive of the SFA, has made a statement regarding the video referee that Celtic supporters will find difficult to accept.

Throughout the past three years, Celtic fans have witnessed an abundance of VAR errors, and even last season, there were numerous high-profile errors that resulted in losses for Brendan Rodgers.
Therefore, many Celtic fans will scoff at Maxwell’s assertion that “VAR is absolutely working.”
Maxwell stated in an interview with The Scottish Football Podcast, “I believe there are two perspectives on the issue.” VAR is functioning as intended and is entirely effective from the standpoint of making accurate decisions. We are making more accurate decisions than we have ever made.
“And I believe that people forget what it was like before VAR.” I believe that individuals become somewhat hazy-eyed, and they recall the years passing in a slightly different manner than when they were present. Refereeing was arguably worse in terms of this, or not arguably, but certainly worse in terms of making accurate decisions.
“I believe the aspect of the in-stadium atmosphere with which I have some agreement is the topic of how to enhance it.”
“What can we do to animate that comprehension of the events that transpire within a stadium?” How can we enhance the experience so that supporters are immediately informed of the status of a VAR check?
