Breaking news: The Detroit Lions are expected to make a trade deadline move for a former edge rusher

It was recently predicted that the Detroit Lions will not make a move until the 2025 trade deadline, despite the fact that they still have a significant need in their pass rush.

The likelihood of the Detroit Lions making a move ahead of the 2025 season appears to decrease as the offseason progresses without any action taken to address their pass rush.

Despite the presence of notable players such as Za’Darius Smith and Jadeveon Clowney, the Lions have not demonstrated any interest in addressing the one apparent weakness in their defence.

During the regular season, that reluctance may be altered.

Breaking news: The Detroit Lions are expected to make a trade deadline move for a former edge rusher

Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report suggests that the move could involve a player who has already been identified as a potential trade candidate this offseason.

Gagnon anticipated that the Lions would pursue Kayvon Thibodeaux, an edge player for the New York Giants, at the trade deadline.

At present, it appears that the Giants are content to observe the potential of their defence with Thiboadeaux, Abdul Carter, and Brian Burns playing together.

Nevertheless, this may be subject to change in the vicinity of the trade deadline.

It is anticipated that the Giants will experience a challenging year in 2025. They encounter an extremely demanding schedule and are not significantly superior to the previous season.

This should prompt the Giants to consider selling some of their veteran players at the deadline in order to acquire draft capital. Thibodeaux is a logical candidate to be one of those players.

They could still obtain a substantial return for him, as his contract is valid until the conclusion of the 2026 season.

The Lions would likely not consider him as a long-term option due to their own defensive investments; however, he would be a high-upside option for them to enhance their pass rush for a few seasons.

He is only one year removed from an 11.5-sack season, and at 24 years old, we may not have even witnessed him at his peak.

If the Giants do make Thibodeaux available at the trade deadline and they have not yet made a move, he would be an ideal candidate for the Lions to enhance their pass rush.
