News about Newcastle United: Fabrizio Romano has put out some important news about a move involving a former Newcastle United striker.
Al-Hilal has ended Aleksandar Mitrovic’s contract, and he is now planning a sudden move to Qatar. The player, who used to play for Newcastle United and Fulham, went to the Saudi Pro League in 2023. He was one of many famous people to leave the Premier League for Saudi Arabia that summer.
Fulham paid £50 million for Mitrovic to move from Craven Cottage. Before he became one of the best players in the league, Mitrovic was a Serbian international. Mitrovic scored 28 goals in 28 Saudi Pro League games and 8 more in 10 AFC Champions League games in his first season at Al-Hilal.
During the 2024–25 season, Mitrovic scored 32 goals across all categories to help that amazing team. Nineteen of those goals were scored in just 23 league games.
His situation with Al-Hilal, on the other hand, turned bad over the summer, and he was linked with a move back to England. As Manchester United looked for more attackers, they were linked with a surprise move for the 30-year-old player before they quickly signed Benjamin Sesko.
Aleksandar Mitrovic’s move is confirmed by Fabrizio Romano
After two years in Saudi Arabia, Mitrovic’s time there is over. His deal with Al-Hilal, a club owned by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, was terminated. After this, Mitrovic will join Al-Rayyan in Qatar for free.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed the news in a post on X: “Al-Rayyan agree deal to sign Aleksandar Mitrović from Al Hilal, here we go!” The move is permanent now that Mitrović’s deal is over; he is ready for a new start in Qatar.
At Al-Rayyan, Mitrovic will play with Rodrigo, a striker who used to play for Leeds United, and will be coached by Artur Jorge, who used to lead Botafogo and Braga. He has played professionally for Partizan Belgrade, Anderlecht, Al-Hilal, and two teams in England, Newcastle United and Fulham. The Qatar Stars League team will be his sixth club.
Newcastle United fans remember Mitrovic with fondness, but that’s mostly because of the kind person he was, not the goals he scored for the Magpies. He only scored 17 goals in 72 games for the black and whites before having a great time at Craven Cottage.
While on loan to Fulham for a short time during the 2017–18 season, Mitrovic scored 12 goals in 17 games. The Cottagers then picked him up to lead the line when they returned to the Premier League. He scored 11 goals in the Premier League, which is a good result, but Fulham still lost and went back to the Championship without those goals.
To be honest, Mitrovic really shone during Fulham’s Championship seasons of 2019–20 and 2021/22. He scored 26 and 43 goals, respectively, and led his team to promotion. During the 2022–23 season, he scored 14 goals in 24 Premier League games before making the big money move to Saudi Arabia.
