Thompson, a former midfielder for Manchester United, has passed away. Rochdale, his former club, expressed its “devastation” upon learning of his passing on Friday.
In a statement, Rochdale disclosed that their former midfielder passed away on Thursday “peacefully at home with his family by his side.” Thompson joined Rochdale from Manchester United’s academy in 2005,
where he made more than 200 appearances. The club paid tribute to their former midfielder on X, describing him as “a warm personality who had a deep connection with our club from a young age.” In 2019, Thompson announced his retirement from the professional football league. In 2024, he was diagnosed with cancer for the third time.
