Newcastle United is eager to secure new contracts for several of their most prominent players.
Newcastle United can now commence the preparations for what could be an extremely thrilling campaign on Tyneside, as the summer transfer window has concluded. Eddie Howe’s team will be eager to finally focus on on-field matters following a turbulent summer, as they have Premier League, Champions League, and Carabao Cup fixtures to play this month.
After spending the summer advocating for a transfer to Anfield, Alexander Isak’s departure to Liverpool was ultimately confirmed. Isak’s dissatisfaction with his current situation on Tyneside and his motivations for relocating to Liverpool were the result of the failure of negotiations for a new contract last summer.
The club was in peril of violating PSR by offering Isak a new contract last summer, as he still had four years remaining on his current contract at St James’ Park. Although Newcastle United had hoped to retain the striker, Isak’s tenure on Tyneside became untenable in the final weeks, necessitating the sale of their cherished asset.
They are reportedly already taking steps to secure some of their most prominent players, and the bruising summer saga will only serve to strengthen their resolve to prevent a similar situation this time next year.
Three Newcastle United players were prepared for contract negotiations.
Tino Livramento, Sven Botman, and Sandro Tonali are all being considered for new contracts, according to The I. Livramento is already “in talks” regarding a new agreement. This summer, Manchester City was rumoured to be interested in signing the former Southampton player. If the Citizens renew their interest in the defender, a new contract could bolster Newcastle United’s position.
Botman and Tonali, on the other hand, are considered to be a significant component of Newcastle United’s long-term strategy and have two and three years remaining on their current contracts, respectively. Although the Dutchman has been unable to establish himself as a regular under Howe due to injury issues, both players have demonstrated their star characteristics in recent seasons. Neither player will reach the age of 26 until next year.
Tying Livramento, Botman, and Tonali to new contracts would be a significant advantage for Newcastle United and would serve as a testament to the organization’s dedication to a long-term endeavour at St. James’ Park. Nevertheless, they are compelled to maintain their focus on the remainder of the squad, as eight players are expected to depart the club next summer.
Among the players who could depart Tyneside as free agents at the conclusion of this season are Nick Pope, Kieran Trippier, and Fabian Schar, who are all regular participants. Although none of the trio may be viable long-term options for Howe, they have all played critical roles thus far this season and have contributed invaluable expertise to the dressing room.
Aaron Ramsdale, who was recruited to contend with Pope for a starting position this season, will also depart the club if his loan is not converted into a permanent transfer at the conclusion of the season. John Ruddy and Mark Gillespie, who are also goalkeepers, have contracts that expire in less than a year. Both Emil Krafth and Jamaal Lascelles, the latter of whom was excluded from the Champions League squad, have less than 12 months remaining on their current contracts and may be eligible to become free agents next summer.
