Breaking: Ottawa Redblacks appoint Ryan Dinwiddie as new head coach

The Ottawa Redblacks have officially appointed Ryan Dinwiddie, the 2023 CFL Coach of the Year, as their new head coach and general manager. Dinwiddie becomes the fourth head coach and third GM in franchise history.

A former CFL quarterback, Dinwiddie joins Ottawa after a successful stint with the Toronto Argonauts, where he compiled a 51-35 record, won two Grey Cups, and reached four consecutive East Finals since taking over in 2020.

“I’m incredibly excited to join the Ottawa Redblacks as Head Coach and General Manager,” Dinwiddie said. “This is a proud organization with passionate fans and a strong foundation to build on.”

Redblacks president Adrian Sciarra welcomed the appointment, praising Dinwiddie’s leadership and success.

“Ryan is a proven winner with a strong record of player development and team success,” Sciarra said. “His vision and competitiveness make him the right person to work alongside Shawn Burke, who remains with the club as Vice President of Football Operations after signing an extension through 2028.”

Dinwiddie previously served as an offensive assistant with the Montreal Alouettes (2013–2015) and as quarterbacks coach for the Calgary Stampeders (2016–2019). He replaces Bob Dyce, who was dismissed in October following a fifth consecutive season without a playoff appearance.
