BREAKING: Rangers submit bid for “perfect” Raskin replacement

The January transfer window has officially swung open, and Rangers’ squad could undergo notable changes before the deadline arrives.

One player whose future at Ibrox is far from certain is midfielder Nicolas Raskin. Reports emerged last month suggesting Rangers may be open to selling the Belgian international during the winter window, with Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur credited with an interest. Turkish heavyweights Besiktas have also been linked, and Rangers are understood to value Raskin at around £13 million.

Rangers submit offer for midfield replacement

Should Rangers decide to cash in on Raskin amid growing interest from abroad, Danny Rohl would need reinforcements in the middle of the park. According to reports from Italy, the Light Blues have identified Genoa midfielder Emil Bohinen as a potential January addition.

It is claimed that Bohinen’s representatives have already presented an offer from Rangers to Genoa. The Serie A club are reportedly prepared to terminate the 26-year-old’s current loan spell at Venezia early in order to pave the way for a permanent move this month. While the exact fee Rangers have proposed has not been disclosed, the report adds that Dutch clubs and Serie A side Spezia are also monitoring the situation, suggesting strong competition for his signature.

Sport Witness have also noted that the move could be driven by Rohl’s familiarity with Bohinen, given that the Norwegian has previously been linked with a move to the Championship during Rohl’s time managing Sheffield Wednesday.

Why Emil Bohinen could be the ideal Raskin successor

Rangers would be wise to push hard for Bohinen if Raskin departs, as the Norwegian midfielder appears well-suited to filling that void. Much like Raskin, Bohinen is a physical, hard-working central midfielder who excels in duels, keeps possession efficiently, and can contribute in attacking areas when required.

Those qualities even saw him compared to Arsenal midfielder Mikel Merino by respected talent scout Jacek Kulig back in 2020. Merino has since gone on to establish himself in the Premier League, scoring 14 goals in 71 appearances for the Gunners.

Bohinen has struggled for opportunities this season, starting just once for Venezia in Serie B, according to Sofascore, which has limited his chances to show his full ability. However, during a loan spell with Frosinone last season, he impressed in the second half of the campaign and showcased the qualities that continue to attract interest across Europe.
